TET OFFENSIVE
Intelligence Operative Missions

Throughout the event each teams general received clues to finding “Golden Intelligence”.  Each clue was available for a limited time (30 – 45 minutes) and involved sending their “Intel Agent” to a specified location on the field and meeting with a local informant.  Sometimes these missions sent operatives into hot areas and other times the meeting took place in out of the way locations.

At each rendezvous the CIA or KGB agent presented his identification and was given a clue.  These clues initially were random misinformation, but the final clue provided instructions for decoding the clues.  If an agent missed a pickup, the missed clue would be released at the next successful pickup.

Alpha Mission

Each Agent was to find “Sylvester” and meet a local farmer claiming to have information.  “Sylvester” was marked on the game map with the familiar cartoon character.  A Sylvester stuffed animal was nailed to the tree that the farmer was waiting near.  The KGB earned 1,000 points for completing this mission and was given the following clue:

HOME OF THE WHOPPER

Bravo Mission

Each Agent was directed to “Tweety” to meet the intel contact.  Tweety was also on the map and nailed to a tree on the top of Chu Ho Mountain.  The KGB arrived safely earning 1,000 points and the following clue:

D15 – N5

Charlie Mission

Agents were to meet a local informant at the Hien Luong Bridge.  The KGB Agent retrieved his clue, but still no sign of the CIA.  NVA earns another 1,000 points and the following clue.

IF THIS EARFUL IS OVERHEARD IT IS CERTAIN TO BE UNCLEAR

Zulu Mission

CIA and KGB agents were sent to grid location “F-7”, where both agents successfully recovered their clues.  Each team earned 1,000 points and the final clue.  The CIA was given all four clues at this time as he had not completed any Intel missions until this one.  He was not awarded the points for the earlier clues.  The final clue read:

ALPHA – BRAVO - CHARLIE
Drop the letters, double the numbers

RIGHT – LEFT – RIGHT
LOOK UNDER THE PANDA

UNLOCK INTEL BOX

SOLUTIONS

Below is a breakdown for each clue and its respective solution. The clues seem random until the final clue instructs to drop the letters and double the numbers.

Alpha:  Home of the Whopper

A Whopper was located on the map at sector “F7
Drop the letter “F” and we are left with “7

Double that and the answer for Alpha is “14

Bravo:  D15 – N5.

Drop the Letters “D” and “N” and we are left with simple math
15 - 5 = 10Don’t forget to double the numbers

The answer for Bravo is “20

Charlie:

IF THIS EARFUL IS OVERHEARD IT IS CERTAIN TO BE UNCLEAR

Looking over this clue we notice some of the letters in the clue are in a different font.  If we isolate those letters it spells out F I F T E E N.
Don’t drop any letters or their wouldn’t be a number to double.

The answer for Charlie is “30

Zulu:

After dropping the letters and doubling the numbers we place the answers into the zulu clue.  Alpha - Bravo - Charlie  ..  Right - Left - Right

14 – 20 – 30  ..  Right – Left – Right

It’s a combination, and the lock it opens is on a box under a stuffed Panda nailed to a tree close to Khe Sahn.  Neither team had seen the Panda during the battle for Khe Sahn, so a flash traffic intel message informed each general of a Panda sighting and the teams were off running.

The NVA showed up first and secured the area while awaiting generals orders.  The NVA spent 15 minutes or so trying different combinations relayed to them by their General.  Eventually the coded messages were cracked and the box was opened.  Inside the box was a vial of liquid gold (Golden Intelligence).

By returning this vial to the HQ ref, the NVA General received the final mission early, and was able to take advantage of his Intelligence to position troops accordingly.
